Official Vacancies Thread - Rising Star for the NYPD Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain Exam (2024)

Very few people have vacancy numbers they are willing to share nowadays. Instead of having that information get lost in the monthly class topics once the list is out, I figured it would be a good idea to have one main thread dedicated to that information.

So with that being said.

Anyone got any of those vacancy numbers ? Lol

122 as of todayon average the dept promotes 250 sgts to lt a year. So expect a very big class as soon as the list drops. Im hearing oct/nov.

October/November for the list? Or first class.

Everyone is going to hate me; and Im probably wrong but Im hearing the end of next week. August 24th/25th for a list.

On another beaten path topic, iMHO our testing process is flawed beyond salvation on so many levels. We need an independent entity to create a process thats not only transparent but measures intelligence, fitness, procedural knowledge, and basic decision making. This can be done but unfortunately theres no appetite for progress. We still operate like its 1947. Thats my rant. Lol

I heard the same thing couple days ago its been a rumor floating around but I dont see the list dropping so soon with almost zero chatter.

Anyone know the number of Lt vacancies right now? This could wind up being pretty important for the new list if the budget cuts hold true.

Should be more. We already have that many Lt promoted to Capt. Unless no Lt retired in the last 7/8 months.

Im going to guesstimate 180-200 Lt Vacancies.

Trust me its greener when your making 96k, less than a cop.

I miss my chart days, but then I take a look at my pay check and it goes away.

Anyone have an updated numbers for vacancies? Just went back to 2017 thread and they put in classes of 50 back to back with only 80ish vacancies. I can see two to three big classes to close the gap then slow down.

Dcas has officially updated their site with list numbers

how is it possible for list not to be release for over 9 months, but the site gets updated on December 31st?

Happy New Year to everyone from my buddy the Janitor.

Anyone here correct me if Im wrong. When you go to the DCAS site and check your promotional exams it says that this current Lt exam has an established date of 12/20/23. If you click on the little info button it says that this was the first date the department started hiring from the current list. Did someone get secretly promoted and they started the clock on the list? Did anyone else noticed this one the site? Unlike the 2017 Sgt. Exam, it says established 1/24/18 because thats when the first class started.

mine only has, date of when the list was established, which is 12/20/23

As someone else has pointed out, we believe the department had full intentions of promoting off the new list for the last promotion and decided the readjust the list instead.

Yes, DCAS established this right away instead of publishing it. The list was actually complete on 12/20 and for some reason it took 8 days to be made public. Typical. Established means the 4 year clock is already ticking. The expiration date for the exam is 12/20/2027.

Maybe DCAS tried to establish the list for the 12/22 promo but failed as usual.
