  1. I doubled the recipe to make two 9" pies....I added 1/3 cup EXTRA sugar....I started baking the pies at 425 then reduced to 325 rather than 350 degrees because I was afraid the edges of the pie crust were cooking too fast...the pies baked a total of 55 minutes at 325 degrees plus the 15 minutes at 425....Sweet potato pie is one of my favorites and this recipe is a winner.....the texture and taste were perfect...thank you for posting!!!!!

  2. Great recipe! I actually doubled the spices because we like our sweet potato pie spicy down in the south. My husband and friends loved it. I even gave some to my friends parents and they said it was the best sweet potato pie they had ever had.

  3. Yummy! I couldn't wait until Thanksgiving to make this. Had to have it now. This tasted just the way my grandmother's did. Rich and flavorful sweet potato filling with a slight spiced touch. Thanks Nurse Di for a wonderful, comforting pie.

  4. Yuppers is yummy, but for true southern yum bump up those spices by at least 1/2 and neither orange or lemon zest not hurt it....and for those that like it a little sweeter, maybe if you make two try a thin layer of streusel topping on one....and that's what I like about the south.

  5. Wanted to do something special for my hubby and he always loves sweet potato pie made it for him fresh from the oven

  2. 1 1/2 Tsp of pure vanilla extract doubled the spices and added 1/2 Tsp of ginger. You won't be sorry.

  3. I made this pie today and I tweaked it with 1c of yogurt instead of the cup of milk it turned out fantastic. My family of still talking about it.

  4. I used sweetened condensed milk and decreased the sugar. Regular condensed milk has carageenan which is a PROVEN CARCINOGEN! YIKES! Avoid it like the plague because IT IS! The recipe is absolutely delicious, and my pie turned out wonderfully. I think I doubled the spices and used "Pumpkin Pie Spice" by McCormick because that was what I had on hand. I am also going to use Xylitol instead of sugar because it (and stevia) are the safest and best sugar substitutes. (The pink, blue and yellow packets are POISON! And aguave is pretty high on the glycimic index: much adoo about nothing aka hype)

  5. I was wanting a pumpkin pie, and my can of pumpkin turned out to be yams. I drained the yams, mashed in the kitchen aid and measured out 2 cups. I doubled the spices and followed the directions. It was great !! Now my family wants more. I will use sweet potatoes, just to see if anyone notices the difference.
